Abstract

This study examines the efficiency of the soybean supply chain as a sustainability instrument for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the tempe industry, viewed through the lens of Islamic economics. Although previous studies have extensively assessed supply chain efficiency using quantitative approaches, limited attention has been given to integrating Islamic economic principles into efficiency evaluation, particularly in the soybean supply chain of tempe-producing SMEs. This study addresses this gap by combining technical efficiency analysis with the values of justice, fairness, and sustainability emphasized in Islamic economics.Using the Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) method, the research analyzes the efficiency of three soybean suppliers in Bandung: Cimahi, Ujung Berung, and Jamika. The results show that Ujung Berung and Jamika exhibit technical efficiency, while Cimahi remains inefficient due to suboptimal management of input variables, such as soybean prices, distance, and delivery time. The study also integrates Islamic economic principles, emphasizing efficiency not only as a technical measure but as a tool for justice, fairness, and sustainability. The findings underline the importance of optimizing input management to ensure equitable and sustainable practices in the tempe production supply chain, which is crucial for the long-term survival and competitiveness of SMEs in the sector. This research contributes to the understanding of how Islamic economic values can be applied to supply chain management, promoting both efficiency and social responsibility.
