Abstract

Digital transformation has become a critical process for organizations aiming to stay competitive in the digital age, yet the subjective experiences of IT managers in implementing such changes remain underexplored. This study addresses this gap by examining how IT managers perceive and navigate the challenges of digital transformation, emphasizing the human factors that shape success or failure. Using a phenomenological approach, we conducted in-depth interviews with 8-10 IT managers and identified key themes, including resistance to change, the importance of leadership support, and the necessity of continuous training. A notable finding highlights that leadership support is not only crucial but must be adaptive to the evolving demands of digital transformation. Additionally, resistance to change was strongly linked to inadequate communication and unclear goals. Our findings underscore that the human side of digital transformation plays a pivotal role in determining its success. Practical implications suggest that organizations should prioritize clear communication strategies, foster adaptive leadership, and invest in ongoing employee development to ensure readiness and engagement during technological change.  These insights contribute to a more holistic understanding of digital transformation, offering practical implications for organizations looking to better manage technological change. Future research could build on these findings to explore the experiences of other roles or industries involved in digital transformation.
