A Critical Review of Frameworks, Behavioral Change Theories, and Methodological Approaches

Abstract
Theoretical frameworks in Community Health Education have evolved significantly, yet inconsistencies in applying behavioral change theories to diverse populations remain unresolved. This study conducts a Critical Review to evaluate the strengths and limitations of existing models, synthesizing insights from high-impact Scopus Q1 publications. The review analyzed [XX] studies selected from an initial pool of [XX] publications through a structured screening process that included identification, eligibility assessment, and full-text evaluation. Articles were included based on predefined criteria, namely publication in Scopus Q1-indexed journals, relevance to community health education and behavioral change theories, and availability of full-text manuscripts. Unlike Systematic Reviews, this approach provides a conceptual critique, identifying key theoretical gaps and methodological challenges. The findings highlight that while behavioral change theories are effective in certain settings, their applicability to marginalized communities remains limited. The proposed Community-Driven Health Education Framework (CDHEF) integrates elements of community empowerment and cultural sensitivity, offering a more flexible approach for future interventions. This review contributes by advancing the theoretical integration of community health models and offering practical recommendations for designing more sustainable and context-sensitive health programs. Future studies should explore the empirical testing of the CDHEF and investigate additional variables influencing health education outcomes in diverse settings.
